Hi all. anyone collect things as a hobby? I have two, one which is ell documented on here, I collect soft toy animals, and now have a sizable collection, numbering about 170 or so. a large lion pride, a large number of tigers and bears etc. My collection mainly goes for african or asian predators with paws, no birds here, and arctic predators, polar bears mostly, though I do have brown bears and a few badgers as well as a lynx or two. snow leopards are well represented too. I have several styles of lion, tiger and bear. Panda's also feature.
my less publisised collection is of letter openers. I have simple ones, and more ornate ones too, some with weird glass handles. some are solid silver, some aren't. i get the unusual openers mostly.
I used to collect Pikachu and sometimes other Pokemon stuff, mainly figurines. Now, although I haven't come across anything new lately, I'm collecting coins and bills from here and from other countries when possible. I have a lot of those state quarters, some old (U.S.) coins, a Canadian dime, a peso, and that's all I think I have for now. (I also used to have a bill from an African country, but that was over 10 years ago and I don't know what happened to it.)
I used to collect so many things before when i was a kid. I was into Japanese animation back in high school, so i was collecting DVD's, CD's, trading cards, and manga comic books, and art books. I used to collect mugs as well as pogs, and cards. Well, that was before, i don't collect anime anymore. I gave my whole collection to my cousins and friends before i left the Philippines. Now, i collect books of all genres and CD's but thats about it.
I have an asorted collection of keychains, but I haven't bought any in a long time. I also started a coin collection. My dad just started giving me these rare coins, and so they've just accumulated over time. I also collect porcelain dolls, and I have a good sized collection of angel statues, figurines, etc. I have other kinds of figurines and things like that, as well.
i collect those little tabs off of the top of soda cans. lost count after two thousand. They're all here in a shoebox on my desk. I'm also collecting CD's, and have done so for the last ten years or so.
I love anime, I still collect dvd's, cd's, and posters.
Oh, I collect c.d's, ashtrays, shot glasses, dvd's, and I have a huge autographed collection along with sports cards of all sorts.
to much stuff LOL
great to hear about the collections so far. coin collections? yes I've got one, a small one started by my grandma who's been dead sixteen years. loads of half crowns, thrupenny bits etc etc. oh, and I have another hobby, writing, though i suppose that could be under another topic.
first joanne, i used to collect those little tabs for a good cause. i can't remember exactly what they were used for but a daycare collected them and they were sent in to help fund dyalysis machines. if you aren't really attached to your collection and would like to do something to help, you should check into this.
now as for my collections, i collect shot glasses, dr. seuss books, and candles.
Yes, i was thinking of donating them to the ronald McDonald House once I have reached my goal of collecting a fish bowl full of them. I've probably only got enough to coat the bottom of one.
ronald mcdonald house? that's a burger chain isn't it?
You can donate those tabs to charity? I did not know that. That's definitely something to look in to. I'd like to get more information on that. It's very interesting.
I forgot to mention that I, too, collect candles. I have so many, it's as if I have my own personal candle shop! LOL
I collect, Teddy Bears, keychains, and coins from other countries, cd's and dvd's.
oh, yeah, can't forget the DVD's. lol Yes, as far as I know, you can still donate the pop tabs to charity. my dad once had a coworker whose son needed an operation, and one of these tabs equaled a certain number of minutes on the operating table. at that time, I think i had over three thousand of them. How could I resist? Unfortunately, I don't think he made it, but I feel great, knowing I helped someone.
I've a few Triumph bike models about 5, is that a collection at all?
Stevie
I collect ornaments of animals, mostly horses, or used to every time Nan and Grandad took me and my sister t the carboot sales. I think I must have at least 20 horse ornaments and that's not counting the ones in drawers and boxes.
As I said in my text profile, I'm a collecter of rare vinyl records. For those who have no idea what those are, they're these platter like black plastic things you play on a thing called a turntable. Anyway, I've been collecting records since christmas 1994, and it's a passion of mine finding rare out of print music.
When i was in England somebody asked me to bring him some soil from Cyprus because he had a collection of soil from different countries. This is an interesting collection and i might do something simmilar one day or maybe stones from different countries i don't know.
Post 17, do you play any of those records? Nicos, my nan and grandad have just moved over to Sipress, but one of the first times they went over there for a holiday, they bought me back some shells.
Oh, I forgot, I also collect paperclips. I don't know why.
CD's, tapes, records and baseball cards.
Dolls, stuffed animals, beanie babies, pipe cleaners, and that's about it.
birdhouses, Winnie the Pooh Hallmark Christmas ornaments and other Tiggers and the wooden dolls that fit inside of one another (the name for them escapes me right now, but they are traditionally found in Russia)
When I was little, I used to collect erasers in interesting shapes. I had two shaped like the Statue of Liberty, several animal ones, and even a Christmas set. I also collected rocks and seashells.
Now, I collect (and play) harmonicas. I have about 12 of them I think, in various different styles and keys. I also collect the pins Disney sells at its parks and resorts. I started that collection when I was down there last February. Pins are made for different parks, attractions and events, as well as of popular characters from Disney movies. They're a bit pricy as pins go, but it's fun to use them to remember good times and favorite vacations.
I guess another thing I collect would be educational books/articles/lists, and I would also collect such shows and old cartoons if there were ever an accessible DVD recorder or if I had the money to buy them. I also like collecting little animal figurines (mainly those of different breeds of animals), for now I mostly have dogs and some cats, and I also have some stuffed animal dogs. I've also been collecting interesting tactile/3D-decorated things, like I have some small picture frames with tactile-decorated edges including one that is like 3D and looks like the picture is looking out a window that has some things placed outside the window like flowers and baskets, and some tactile pictures I want to decorate my room with.
Live Shows/Bootlegs, Model trains. You can't go wrong with either.
Yes Krisme, I collect those Disney pins too and they are very cool. It is fun in the parks also because you can make trades with Disney employees. If they have them on their hats/shirts, you can ask them to trade with you. It is a way to get rare ones that may otherwise be sold out.
I collect postcards from different countries. They are mostly from the States. When I was younger I used to collect rubber snakes every time I went to the zoo.
I have got about 4 or 5 of those badges or pin. One of them is on my coat and the others are in my jewellery box, but I'm going to put them on my coat instead.
I collect sea shells. started that back in april wwhen i visited my sister in south carluina. I have some here at home and a lot more at my dad's
I believe the name for those dolls is nesting dolls. I started collecting music boxes when I was younger, and I think I'd like to start doing that again. I can definitely picture my own home with lots of talking clocks in every room. lollol, well, not every room, but ... yes, you get the idea. and nesting dolls? Those are so cool. *smile*
I collect cabbage patch dolls. I used to collect bears when I was little. My sister collects barbies. My sister and I are starting a cell phone collection. My sister collects my mom and dad's old cell phones that don't work any more. I think she has a couple of these.
I used to collect real but also foreign money. Cents, shillings, half-crowns (actually, those were our currency before decimal currency came in 1972) and goodness knows what else besides those. I think it all started because my Aunt and Uncle went abroad on holiday and brought a whole plastic piggybank full of this money back for me, probably so I could use it as play money. For a while, I collected those little pocket monster toys from the 'Frosties, cereal boxes, plus a number of other small gifts from cereal boxes, ring pulls off cans of pop, though I got nowhere near 2000. That's just bordering on the bloody ridiculous, lollol, I've collected matchbox cars, bikes and other little matchbox vehicles, either from toyshops, fast food restaurants in the bottoms of kiddies happy meals Etc Etc. My first-ever collection in fact, was those Fisher Price musical radios and various other music boxes which I'm still collecting now.

I collect dragons. It started with two dragon head candle holders I made my sofemore year of high school then it gained a dragon necklace for that christmas than an iron dragon with a claw full of fire. the whole thing is a light, very light emerald green, almost a jade. a white odd sort of glass dragon holding an orb of somesort, a puter dragon I got last year, a dragon standing on a rock holding a green orb and finally a red dragon with unfirling wings. then a stuffed dragon from dragon tales the pink one and a green stuffed dragon from my aunt. then a stuffed beany babie the TY ones. the larger version of magic the dragon then the two normal beanie baby dragons, white with green wings is magic and the brownish one with orange wings, claws and forked tongue sticking out called scorch. I havn't seen any other TY dragons although I look.
I used to collect stuffed animals of all kinds as a little girl. I used to collect happy meal toys.
In deed I do play the rare vinyl I collect, but it's usually during the process of putting them on cd via a three disc stand-alone pioneer burner, and then ripped to 320kbps mp3. I'm not one for employing any depoping, because the bulk of my collection is in mint condition.
I still collect happy meal toys, though nowhere near as many as I used to. They're just sitting in a paper bag in my closet. lol
O my god. I used to collect both Happy meal and Burgerking toys as well Joanne. Freaky! Anyway, I'm starting to collect things from the past to put together a memorabilia box or rather, wooden chest, which will go by the window in my room probably, I've just bid for two Fisher Price musical boxes on Ebay and won them, but lost a third. This also ties in with my musical box collection as I remember those fantastic little radios, simply loads of them and the wooden ones played more unusual tunes, so I'm collecting those, plus, O my gosh, a music box ferris wheel toy from the 1980's, thought I'd never lay my hands on one again. I didn't have one myself, but I'd just sit on the floor round my friend Sue's house or Katy's house who I used to go to School with as they both had those toys and just play with it, feel it spinning round and round for hours and hours at a time (that was one of the bids I won on Ebay by the way, £11.99, what a cracker! and a 1979 dated Teddybear's Picnic musical radio for £8.99. Beautiful. So, as my collection's both connected with unusual musical tunes and memories, I'm after your Fisher Price radios/1980's toys if you don't need 'em any more, lollol.

I collect all sorts of lighters, mostly the kinds you find in a dollar store though I have a few that are a little more expensive. I have 40 something, and the collection keeps growing. Everything from guns, to pipes, to to women, to cell phones, to animals, to binoculars. Some have different coloured lights and some of the women take off their clothes when you light them up. I even have a lighter in the shape of a penis, as well as a keychain, a working watch, a book, two huge match-like lighters for candles, and one with Greek stuff on it. My favourite one looks like a cigarette and stays lit until you shut it, which is very helpful. Oh, and I have two lighters designed specifically for cigarettes that run on double-a bateries that have no flame at all. I really wish I could find their covers so I could use them. I donno why I started this collection, but I love it and want to display them in a box or something.
i colect keychains and those little matchbox toys you get when you go to ecuador. in ecuador, there are those chocolate eggs which you eat the outside layer. and inside the layer, there are little packages with toys inside a plastic round case
.
this is usually found in ecuador
I got some of those eggs from my dad one year. An Advent calendarful in fact, lollol. 24 little cars, planes, skiers Etc to piece together, lollol. Think they all got chucked out in the end though, lollol.
Jen.
Wow. I feel all out of place. I figured more people would collect what I collect.
My wall is festooned with a growing number of swords, knives, throwing stars, daggers, and various other kinds of weapons.
I've got two long swords with a knife set into the hilt, a set of three dragon blades, one full-metal sword complete with metal sheath, one Tai Chi sword (not for use as a weapon), another dragon blade with cuplted hilt, scabard, and guard. Have a pair of, for lack of a better word, punching daggers, a hunting knife, a pocket knife with two fairly heavy gauge blades, and am in the process of getting a decorative knife with Chinese inscriptions. Two throwing stars, one of which has foldable blades. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few. I'm working on getting a set of three cobra-hilted swords, a claymore, as well as some throwing knives.
I also saw a shield, but I'm not quite sure I wanna get that. It looks really nice, though.

Hi. I collect unicorns. I love them.
I collect horse ornaments.
Hi, all. DreamLady, unicorns are very cool.
I used to collect bells. I had all shapes, sizes, ringer sounds, and materials. However, my collection got destroyed in a house-fire, and I never could bring myself to start it again, even though I've wanted to. If I had more space, I think I would. I'd also collect Quarry Critter cats and dogs if I had room. I love Quarry Critters. but my bell collection was the nearest to my heart.
When I was a kid I collected rocks that look like stuff pie and water mellen Now I collect horses and roses, and horses with wings that I can't think how to spell right now and too lazy to look it up .I have all kinds of them from blankets to rings , and little tiny boxes. oh I love boxes like wooden ones. some have horses and some have roses on them I have some I have made from ceramics and pottery also that I have kept. I love all the things that people have collected here. love ya all Mary
Well, I collect those battery-operated handheld gameboys as well (the ones suitable for Visually Impaired people. I have, the two Bop It Extremes, the normal one and the one that plugs in to the USB socket on your computer and you can record your own voice and all sorts there, I have a Rock It game, which is a rather cool jazzy electric guitar thing with a twisty neck, a slider thing and a flippy thing where the sound hole would be on a real guitar and you basically copy the rhythems and sounds in time to the beat, I have a sort of mix and match game, Super 12, which I haven't got to grips with yet since I only had it for Christmas along with the USB Bop It. I bust one of my Pocket Simon games and lost the other, so I only have one six player version of that now, called Copy Cats, Only very recently, last night in fact, I received my Fast Fingers game in the post, thanks to, believe it or not, a fellow Zoner who posted it on the Accessible Electronics boardsomewhere. And lastly but by no means leastly, I have a Harry Potter broomstick which lights up and the evil wizzard tells you what to do or it makes these weird sounds and you have to do what the game tells you again, a bit like Copy Cat/Pocket Simon, so if anyone can think of any more electronic handheld gameboy things I haven't snapped up, don't hesitate to post to this board and tell me all about them, lol.
Jen.
Monkeydoo, are you talking about Pegasus?
Yes That is what I was talking about. Thanks I love those the most of all. Mary
I collect pencils and pens. All sorts. mechanical, pen, blue, white, black, green, all four colors, with furry caps, with thin caps, with twisty tips, the ones where you just push it for it to come out, and a disney one. So, all sorts. There is of course lots more of varieties in this collection.
Wraith, very nice! how did you get all of those weapons, they must of cost a fortune!!
my major collection are still my soft toy animals. lovely they are.
I lvoe collecting music boxes. Taht collection before I was born, and I'm 25 now. I also collect dolphins and anything dealing with the phillies. I started my autographed team ball collection last year.
stuffed and ceramic cats, I've got one leopard, six tigers, one pokemon mew, that is still a cat, and ceremic like house cats that were my grandmothers, and a stone statue of a cat with those metalic yellow eyes, not quite sure how to explain that, but it's too cool.
i've got some stief soft toys now, two cosie friend's pandas, a lioness, soon to get a lion, a tiger, a koala, and an amazing limited ed grey bear too! he wears a bell around his neck. he's so cute!
When I was a child I used to collect rubber snakes. Now I collect postcards. I also have some cuddly animals mostly cats.
I collect key chains
Agree with Wraith, awesome things to collect.
But my wife and daughter are creeped out by stuff like that. Saw a halfway decent machete in the store the other day, and would have got it had it not been for the better half's response ... but she alluded to perhaps Christmas ...
Here's something I would like to get, also: I'm kinda a rock hound and there's this stone called lodestone, I think, that's naturally magnetic. I saw some on the internet, even a fifty-pounder! Don't want anything that big, but ... rocks, shells, and petrified wood are all cool. If I get rich (when my daughter's out of college?) I'll probably start getting into swords, and the original matchbox collection - those with the real little doors on them that opened, and were exact or near replicas of the real thing. I'm not a car guy, but I always thought those were fun to play with as a boy - didn't know what we had then. Went to find them for my daughter when she was little and all you can find now is cheap plastic shit. The wheels on the new ones are disproportionately small.
I collect CDs, instruments and some language vocabulary :)
